Luminox Men’s Night View Series Watch #0107 I own a couple of Luminox Watches (See my review of the 3100 Series). After breaking a few crystals over the past few years, and finding out that replacing the crystals are pretty much cost prohibitive (0+), or just having them stop on me for no good reason, I’ve come to think of the Luminox watches as feature rich, but disposable. So instead of ordering up another 0 3100 series, I decided to go with the new, low cost 100 series.

When my first series 107 (white face) arrived, I thought it was defective, in that the chrono-bezel’s tritium insert was dark. I requested a replacement from Amazon, which took 3 weeks to get… only to find the replacement had the same issue (there is a small green semi-transparent circle in the middle of the 12′oclock position on the bezel, which I had assumed was a tritium insert just like all my other Luminox’s have). Well… this second shipment came in a completely different Luminox presentation box, so I can only assume one two things 1) the Series 100 does not come with a luminous chrono-bezel or 2) Amazon’s vendors are providing Amazon with an entire lot of defective series 107’s. I don’t expect anyone at Amazon, including their product manager in charge of watches, to have a definitive answer on this issue. I couldn’t find anything regarding this issue online at all, and I’m sure trying to get a hold of anyone at Luminox USA with a definitive answer would be next to impossible (especially since Amazon is Grey market to them!). So that leaves me with the option to either return this second one as well, or just live with this lack of illumination of the chrono-bezel (which, if this was by design, strikes me kind of funny that they would have the nerve to name this series the “Night View”, since it’s not a fully functioning watch at night!). I’d go with one of the EVO Colormark series for another or so, but then you get stuck with either the nylon or rubber band; both of which have significant short comings over either the stainless steel of the 3100 series, or the plastic of the 100 series. Decisions decisions! (In retrospect, that might be why the white-face version was $ or so cheaper at Amazon than the other colors… defective illumination… but shouldn’t they at least tell ya that before you buy it?) Well, for what it’s worth, the watch is very light and comfortable to wear. The new plastic band is great; it doesn’t twist around the wrist or loose it’s supporting straps like the rubber band does and it can’t grow mildew like the nylon bands. The illuminated dial looks to be just as bright as the more expensive Luminox models. The crystal is a little more rounded than my older flat-crystal 3100 series’. The adjuster crown doesn’t have the same lock-down feature as the 3100 series does, nor does it feel the same when adjusting time and date, so I guess it’s probably not as Mil-Spec/hard-core as the SS cased 3000 series, but hey… I bought this as a daily wear watch to my office job, not my next tour in the Sandbox! Aside from the lack of illumination of the chrono-bezel (which may or may not be just my shipments…anyone?), I think this is a great watch for just a bit over 0. -Recommended

6/6/08 UPDATE: The numbers and dots on the chrono-bezel are nearly warn-off from just 3 weeks moderate urban daily-wear use. That kind of sucks! I checked my older model 3000’s and found that those bezels have relief/depressions at each one of the number and dashes, which protects the numbers (which the 100 series doesn’t have). The 3000s also appear to have much better paint or powder coated numbers, because there is no wear at all on my two year old 3000. I’ve also noticed that the ratcheting function of the bezel is not nearly as easy to turn, nor does it appear to have as robust of a design then the more costly Luminox versions. These two additional deficits, combined with the lack of illumination point on the bezel, have re-weighted my opinion on this model enough to not recommend it. Wait another two weeks for the next paycheck and go with a higher end version. -Not Recommended.

Stand-out Arabic numerals adorn the classic white dial face. For further time-keeping practicality a handy date calendar rests at the three o’clock position.
